Transmission Service
Similar to an engine, a vehicle’s transmission contains a lubricating oil. For a manual transmission, this oil helps the gears mesh without grinding. In an automatic transmission, the fluid also works in a hydraulic manner to control gear shifts with precise timing. As the transmission spins over time, and the gear sets wear against one another, tiny metal particles become trapped in the fluid. If the fluid goes too long without being changed, the lubrication properties are lost and it becomes abrasive. At this point, the inner workings of the transmission will deteriorate, and soon a full transmission replacement will be necessary.
For most Infiniti and Nissan models, we recommend having your transmission fluid changed every 60k miles. This maintenance interval is not as frequent as engine oil, but absolutely vital to keeping your transmission shifting smooth for years to come.
While we always recommend preventative maintenance, unfortunately sometimes things just break. The Nissan and Infiniti 7 speed automatic transmissions have their control modules fitted on the inside of the transmission case. As these modules age, the soldering on the circuit board will develop cracks, and the transmission’s gear shifts will become more erratic.
Whether you’d like a preventative transmission fluid exchange, or if you’re experiencing hard shifts and irregular transmission behavior, our technicians at Infinite Automotive Performance will take care of you. Please click the button below to schedule your appointment today.
